Tom’s Take Aways: HCCI Conference

HCCI Conference

Key take aways from Home and Community Care Ireland Conference

Tom Smyth’s, our Head of Strategy, key take aways from the HCCI Conference in Athlone are that the Irish elderly homecare sector is on a significant growth trajectory supported by the great work that Joseph Musgrave and his team at HCCI do.

The ageing population demographics up to 2040 & changing nature home ownership in Ireland is going to create significant long term challenges for homecare.

I was amazed to hear that the Older Population has almost doubled in the last 20 years and is forecast to double again in the next 16 years!

Despite challenges in staffing, waiting lists and regional disparity, the private homecare providers that are members of the HCCI are doing a great job at fulfilling this growing need – embracing technology and innovation.

I loved listening to Jukka Lahesmaa, Special Adviser to the Finnish Dept of Health, who described the digitisation and healthtech journey that Finland has gone through. I hadn’t come across the term “AgeTech” to summarise this.

A more person centric approach to patients and to the availability of what is a flexible workforce is going to be key to embracing this change.
